Do you work with the public in Clackmannanshire or Perth & Kinross?
Do people at your organisation talk to people about support services or benefits, in a formal or informal way?
Maybe you work at a food bank, a library, a school, or a community organisation, and you talk to members of the public about the help they are entitled to?
Perhaps you work at an organisation whose main work is providing formal advice on these things?
If any of this sounds like your role, then this project could be for you!
Disability Equality Scotland is being funded by Scottish Government to provide training and support to organisations working in the Perth & Kinross and Clackmannanshire areas of Scotland.
The training and support is for organisations that offer welfare rights advice to the public. A welfare right is a person’s right to receive the financial help, benefits or services they are entitled to, like help with living costs, housing, disability or caring responsibilities.
We know that welfare rights advice often happens during spontaneous conversations as well as in pre-arranged appointments.
Our project is to make this advice more accessible to disabled people. The project includes free training and support about physical accessibility and communication accessibility.
We will be offering training and support on things like:
- using accessible language
- investigating the accessibility of physical places
- how to have an inclusive conversation
- when and how to use accessible communication formats
- how to work with your service users to support their access needs.
The project is fully funded by Scottish Government and is completely free of charge for organisations taking part.
At the moment we are only able to work with organisations in the 2 geographical areas named above.
If you would like to know more, please email training@disabilityequality.scot.
We look forward to hearing from you.
