Cost of Living 2027: Energy Price Cap Survey

In May 2026, Disability Equality Scotland published the findings of our cost of living research for 2025-2026. We found that disabled people worry about the cost of their energy bills.

Since we published our research we’ve seen the OFGEM energy price cap go up by 13% in July and again by 4% at the start of October. The war in Iran has pushed up the prices of heating oil, gas prices and electricity prices for disabled people across Scotland. We want to start our cost of living research for 2027 early because of these pressures.

Our first set of question are about the changes to the energy price cap and what it’s meant for disabled people. We also want to find out the impact of higher heating oil costs and peat costs too.

Our online survey can be found;  https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/DESPriceCap2026/

To make sure everyone can fill out our survey we’ve put together an easy read version too. The questions are the same in both online and easy read versions.

Our Easy Read version can be downloaded here: Energy Price Cap Easy Read Survey

If you’re filling out the easy read version please send it back to us so we can include your views. Please send your completed easy read survey to research@disabilityequality.scot

Please complete our survey by Friday 23 October
