A Message from Our New Deputy CEO!

Hello, I hope that this finds you well and looking forward to the weekend.

As I am sure you are aware, Emma Scott left her role as Deputy Chief Executive of Disability Equality Scotland (DES) earlier this summer.

Following an open recruitment process, I was delighted to accept the offer from DES to follow in Emma’s footsteps and started with the charity on Monday 15 August.

By way of a brief introduction, for much of my working life I have been involved in sport and physical activity – including working for the national agency for sport and subsequently leading a successful national governing body of sport.

In terms of my experience within a disability context, this extends to both my mother and mother-in-law having physical disabilities, which has provided me with at least some knowledge and understanding regarding the challenges and barriers that disabled people face.

I do appreciate that we have yet to completely see the back of Covid – but would welcome the opportunity to meet DES members and members of the Access Panels as we move forward. Indeed, I may see you at the forthcoming DES annual general meeting on 31 August, if you are attending.

Wishing you a great weekend!

Douglas Bryce
